History:
-
She complies with strict new stability and buoyancy regulations brought in after the sinking of the Marchioness on the River Thames, and was spacious comfortable and highly manoeuvrable.
- Built by the Bristol ferry Boat Co at Underfall Yard Bristol and is named after Matilda Bungard the daughter of Ian and Philippa Bungard who are delighted to be back running the ferries after a 10 year break in Spain.
- Purpose built in Bristol Floating Harbour by Nigel Ludow of Classic Craft in 1997. Footnote: Nigel Ludlow was one of 11 crew who survived by swimming ashore when the square rigged sailing ship Maria Asumpta struck rocks and sank near Padstow in 1995. Nigel managed to cling to a rock and heroically pulled another struggling crewman clear of the waves. Sadly Nigel died a few years ago, but we salute him for his bravery at that time and for giving us Matilda.
